LeapfrogSex Position

You have probably done this by accident. It is much better on purpose.

Leapfrog has the receiving partner kneeling with the chest and one cheek down on the bed, arms folded forward or tucked under, and the hips staying high. The giving partner kneels behind. If that sounds familiar, it is because it is where doggy style ends up about ten minutes in, once the wrists and shoulders have filed their complaint.

The difference is intent. Arrived at by collapse it feels like a concession, and everybody carries on as though something was lost. Chosen deliberately, with the arms arranged properly and a pillow under the chest, it is deeper than the position it replaced and it runs several times longer.

What LeapfrogIs

The receiving partner starts on hands and knees, then lowers the chest to the bed while keeping the hips up and the knees underneath. The head turns to one side, the arms fold forward or tuck beneath the body, and the back arches downward.

That chest down and hips up shape is a steeper pelvic tilt than kneeling upright produces. The depth is greater than doggy style, not less, which surprises people who assume lowering yourself means giving something up.

It appears on lists of position guides under several names because it is more of a resting shape than an invention. Nobody had to design it. Enough people found it by accident that it acquired a name.

Why It BeatsWhat It Replaces

Doggy style loads the wrists, then the shoulders, then the lower back, and it does that on a fairly short clock. Leapfrog removes all three at once by putting the chest on the mattress, which means the position outlasts the fatigue that normally ends it.

It is also deeper. Dropping the chest steepens the tilt, so the angle improves at the same moment the effort disappears. That combination is rare enough to be worth stating plainly, because most trades in this area cost you something.

The one thing it gives up is stability of pace. With the receiving partner's arms out of the picture they can no longer push back to control the rhythm, so the pace shifts almost entirely to the giving partner. That is worth knowing before you settle in rather than discovering mid session.

How low is the chest?

Slide it to see how lowering the chest changes depth and effort. Lower is deeper and easier at the same time.

How To ActuallyDo It

  1. 1

    Start on hands and knees

Get the knees set roughly hip width first. Everything from here is lowering the front end while the back end stays put.

  2. 2

Lower the chest, keep the hips up

The hips staying high is the whole position. Letting them drop with the chest turns this into something much shallower.

  3. 3

Put a pillow under the chest

It removes the pressure through the ribs and shoulders and it is the difference between a few minutes and a long stretch.

  4. 4

    Sort out the arms

Folded forward under the head or tucked along the body. Leaving them trapped underneath is the most common comfort mistake here.

  5. 5

Agree who is setting the pace

The receiving partner cannot push back from this position, so pace moves to the giving partner. Say so rather than assuming it.

ComfortAnd The Neck

The neck is the thing to watch. The head is turned to one side for the whole position, and holding one rotation for twenty minutes gets stiff. Swapping which side the head faces every so often costs nothing and prevents all of it.

A pillow under the chest is not optional if you want this to last. Ribs and shoulders taking bodyweight against a mattress is fine for five minutes and tiresome after fifteen, and the pillow also holds the angle steady.

Knees carry all the weight now that the arms are out, so a folded blanket underneath helps on a firm surface. The angle is steep and arrives immediately, so start shallow and let lube do the work in the first minute.

VersionsWorth Trying

Arms folded under the forehead is the most comfortable arrangement for a long session and keeps the neck straighter than turning it fully to one side.

Knees drawn further forward under the body raises the hips and steepens the angle again. Knees further back lowers it. This is the depth dial once the chest is down.

A pillow under the hips as well as the chest turns this into a fully supported position that asks nothing of anyone. For the flat version with the legs closed and the depth limited, prone bone is next door.

WhoIt Is Best For

This suits anyone whose doggy style sessions end because of wrists and shoulders rather than interest, and couples who want depth without effort. It is one of the very few positions where getting more comfortable also gets you a better angle.

It is a weaker choice if the receiving partner wants to control the pace, since the arms are no longer available for that. Neck stiffness is the other limit and it is solved by swapping sides. If depth is consistently too much, lower the hips rather than abandoning it.

What GoesWrong

  • Letting the hips drop with the chest

The hips staying high is the entire position. Lowering everything together turns it into lying face down, which is a different position with a different angle.

  • Leaving the head turned the same way

The neck stiffens within a few minutes. Swapping which way the head faces, or folding the arms under the forehead to keep it straight, is a ten second fix for the thing most likely to end this.

  • Assuming the receiving partner can slow things down

They cannot push back from here, which removes the brake that exists in most rear entry positions. Agreeing who sets the pace before you start is doing real work.

Questions PeopleAsk

What is the leapfrog sex position?

The receiving partner kneels with the chest lowered to the bed and the hips staying high, arms folded forward, while the giving partner kneels behind. It is a rear entry position with a steeper tilt than kneeling upright.

What is the difference between leapfrog and doggy style?

Doggy style keeps the receiving partner up on their hands. Leapfrog lowers the chest to the bed while the hips stay high, which removes the load from the wrists and shoulders and makes the angle steeper at the same time.

Is leapfrog deeper than doggy style?

Usually yes. Lowering the chest tilts the pelvis further, so the angle steepens even though the position feels more restful. It is one of the few adjustments that improves comfort and depth together.

How do you stop your neck hurting in the leapfrog position?

Swap which side the head faces every few minutes, or fold the arms under the forehead so the neck stays straight rather than rotated. Holding one rotation for a long session is what causes the stiffness.

Who controls the pace in the leapfrog position?

Mostly the giving partner, because the receiving partner no longer has their arms free to push back and regulate the rhythm. It is worth agreeing that out loud before settling in.
