PiledriverSex Position
The hardest one on this site, and the one people quit fastest.
The piledriver is the position people point at when they want to prove a point. The receiving partner lies on the upper back and shoulders with the hips lifted almost straight up. The legs fold back over the head. The giving partner squats or stands above and enters downward. It is the steepest angle in common use, and it is genuinely hard. Most couples try it once and then move on.
Nobody should pretend this one is casual. It asks for real flexibility and a partner who can hold a squat. The payoff is depth and an angle you will not get anywhere else. The cost is that the neck is involved, so setup matters more here than on any other page on this site.
WhatThe Piledriver Is
The receiving partner starts on their back, then rolls the hips up and over. Weight lands on the upper back and the shoulders. The legs fold back toward the head, and the hips end up almost vertical. The giving partner squats above and enters from over the top.
Think of it as a shoulder stand with company. The butter churner is the gentler relative, since the receiving partner stays flatter and the giving partner has far more room to work.
Why It GoesSo Deep
Turning the hips up flips the usual angle. Entry comes from above instead of from the front or from behind. That straight downward line reaches further than almost anything else, and it lands differently because of it.
Depth is not automatically better, which is worth saying out loud. Plenty of people find this too much within a minute. If you want a deep angle you can actually stay in, the mating press gives you most of the reach with none of the acrobatics.
How steep do the hips go?
Slide it to see what changes as the hips rise. Higher means deeper, and it also means less time before you have to come down.
GettingInto It Safely
- 1
Clear the space
Pick a spot with room above the head and something soft underneath. A folded blanket under the shoulders is worth the ten seconds it takes.
- 2
Roll the hips up
The receiving partner lies on their back and walks the legs up and over. Weight should settle across the upper back and the shoulders.
- 3
Check the neck
The head stays relaxed and off duty. If the neck is holding any of the load, come back down and start again.
- 4
Partner squats above
The giving partner straddles the hips in a low squat, facing the receiver. Hands on the bed or the wall help with balance.
- 5
Go slow, set a limit
Enter slowly and agree on a short window before you begin. Coming down early beats coming down sore.
The NeckRule
This is the part to read twice. Weight belongs on the upper back and the shoulders. It never belongs on the neck. If the chin is jammed hard into the chest and the head is carrying load, come down and reset. There is no version of this where a sore neck is normal.
Keep the hold short. Thirty seconds to a minute is realistic, and almost nobody stays up past a few minutes. Come down slowly rather than dropping out of it. A folded blanket under the shoulders helps, and it costs nothing to add. Say something the moment it stops feeling good, because talking mid-position is faster than toughing it out.
EasierWays In
Use a wall. The receiving partner rests the legs against it, which takes most of the balance work away. It is the common fix, and it is the one that makes this position survivable.
Try it off the edge of a couch. Shoulders on the seat cushion and hips over the edge, with the giving partner standing on the floor. The height difference does half the job for you.
Angle the hips a little less than vertical. A sixty degree lean is far kinder than a full ninety, and the depth barely changes. If even that feels like too much, the waterfall gets you a head-down tilt without the load.
What is your piledriver tonight?
Tap the mood.
Who ShouldBother
This suits flexible people who like a challenge and do not mind a short round. The giving partner needs decent leg strength, because a squat held over someone is still a squat.
It is a poor fit if either partner has a cranky back or a tight hamstring. There is no shame in skipping it. Browse the full position list and pick something you can hold for more than a minute.
Be honest. How long did you last in it?
No wrong answer here.
Questions PeopleAsk
What is the piledriver sex position?
The piledriver is a position where the receiving partner rests on the upper back and shoulders with the hips lifted nearly vertical. The legs fold back over the head. The giving partner squats or stands above and enters from over the top.
Is the piledriver safe?
It is safe enough if the weight stays on the upper back and the shoulders. The neck should never carry the load. Keep the hold short and come down slowly, and stop if anything pinches.
How long can you stay in the piledriver?
Not long. Most people manage under a minute, and a few minutes is a lot. The giving partner is holding a squat while the receiving partner is inverted, so both clocks run fast.
What is the difference between the piledriver and the butter churner?
The butter churner keeps the receiving partner flatter on the back with the hips only partly raised. The piledriver goes almost vertical and puts weight on the shoulders. The churner is far easier to hold.
Do you need to be flexible for the piledriver?
Yes, more than for most positions. The hamstrings and the lower back both have to fold. If the legs will not come near the head without strain, pick something else.
