Banana SplitSex Position

One leg up and one leg out, with a stretch you should not force.

The banana split is a spread, not a plunge. The receiving partner lies on their back with the legs split wide. One leg goes up toward the shoulder or over the partner. The other stays out to the side or flat on the bed. The giving partner kneels between them. The name comes from the shape, which is exactly as unsubtle as it sounds. What you get is openness and a shifted angle.

Depth is not the goal here. The split changes where the pressure lands, not how far anything reaches. That is why some people love it and others shrug. It also asks a real question of your hamstrings, so the honest limit on this position is how wide you can comfortably go.

What The BananaSplit Is

The receiving partner lies on their back, near the edge of a bed or in the middle of it. One leg lifts up, either resting on the giving partner's shoulder or held by the hand. The other leg opens out wide to the side. The giving partner kneels in close between the legs.

The shape is lopsided on purpose. One leg high and one leg out creates a twist through the hips that a symmetrical position does not. If you like that off-center feeling, the T-bone plays with the same idea from a different starting point.

Getting into it is smoother than it looks. Start face to face with both legs down. The giving partner lifts one ankle and guides it up to the shoulder, then nudges the other knee out to the side. Two moves, in that order. Grabbing both legs at once tends to end in a scramble.

The SpreadIs The Point

Splitting the legs opens the hips and changes the line of entry. Pressure moves toward the front rather than straight back. That is a small change on paper and a noticeable one in practice.

Nobody comes here for depth. Kneeling between wide legs actually shortens the reach a little compared to a folded position. If depth is what you are after, the mating press is the better tool. The banana split trades reach for spread.

Hands make or break this one. The giving partner can hold the raised ankle with one hand and rest the other on the opened thigh. That second hand is doing real work. It keeps the wide leg from creeping back toward center, which it will try to do.

Try it

How wide is wide enough?

Slide it to see how the split changes things. Wider opens the angle, and it also asks more of the hamstrings.

SettingIt Up

  1. 1

    Start on the back

The receiving partner lies down with the knees bent and the feet flat. This is the neutral spot to build from.

  2. 2

    Lift one leg

Raise one leg toward the shoulder, straight or bent, whichever feels fine. The giving partner can support it with a hand or a shoulder.

  3. 3

    Open the other leg

Let the second leg fall out to the side and rest on the bed. Stop at the first sign of a pull.

  4. 4

    Kneel in close

The giving partner kneels between the legs and moves in until the hips meet. Sitting back on the heels is more comfortable than hovering.

  5. 5

    Adjust, then go slow

Enter slowly and check the angle before picking up any pace. Small changes in leg height make a big difference here.

Do Not ForceThe Stretch

A wide leg split is a genuine stretch, and hamstrings do not care how motivated you are. Go to the first point of tension and stop there. Do not bounce, and do not let a partner push the leg further than it wants to go.

Warm up if you have been sitting all day. Even a minute of easy movement helps. Keep lube in reach too, since a wide angle can make the entry feel tighter than expected. A quick check about how far is far enough saves the mood later.

The classic mistake is leaning forward. Pushing the chest toward the raised leg drives the stretch deeper without adding anything. Sit tall instead and let the hips do the work. If the person underneath starts holding their breath, back off an inch.

Ways To ChangeIt Up

Lower the raised leg to a bent knee instead of a straight one. The stretch drops by half and the angle mostly survives.

Swap which leg goes up halfway through. It feels different on each side, which surprises people the first time.

Try it at the edge of the bed with the giving partner kneeling on the floor. The height is easier on the knees, and the outside leg has somewhere to hang. If you want more low-effort tweaks like that, the wider position library has plenty.

A pillow under the lower back is a quiet upgrade. It tilts the hips and takes strain off the opened leg at the same time. A second pillow under the head lets the receiving partner watch what is happening, which some people like more than the angle itself.

Try the raised leg straight up rather than resting on the shoulder. The giving partner holds it at the calf and can lean it in or out a few inches. That small drift changes the angle more than most people expect.

WhoIt Works For

This suits people with open hips who like a slow, controlled pace. It is also good for anyone who wants face-to-face contact without a folded, pinned feeling.

Skip it if a straight-leg stretch already feels rough. There is no prize for pushing through. Say what your range actually is, because an honest word up front beats a sore morning.

Pacing suits this shape well. Slow strokes let the stretch settle, and the position holds fine for a long while as long as nobody is straining. Swap to a bent knee when the leg gets tired rather than quitting the whole thing. A useful thing to say out loud is "lower it a little," and then actually lower it.

Is the banana split about the angle or the view?

Questions PeopleAsk

What is the banana split sex position?

The banana split is a face-up position where the receiving partner splits the legs wide. One leg lifts toward the shoulder while the other stays out to the side. The giving partner kneels in between.

Do you need to be flexible for the banana split?

Some flexibility helps, but you can scale it down. Bend the raised knee and let the outside leg rest closer in. The position still works with a much smaller split.

Is the banana split deep?

Not especially. It is built for spread rather than reach. Kneeling between wide legs can even shorten the depth a little, which is fine because that is not the point.

How is the banana split different from the mating press?

The mating press folds the legs in toward the chest and drives depth. The banana split pushes the legs apart instead. One is about reach and the other is about the spread.

How do you avoid cramping in the banana split?

Warm up a little first and do not hold the widest version for long. Switch which leg is raised partway through. If a muscle starts to twitch, come out of it and stretch gently.
