CEOSex Position

A desk chair joke that turned into a genuinely good position.

The CEO position is a joke that turned out to work. One partner sits in a chair. The other sits on their lap, facing them or facing away. The name comes from the executive office chair, which is also the single worst chair you could pick for it. Wheels move. Swivel bases spin. Use something with four legs that stay where you put them.

Chair positions are underrated. You get an upright angle without anyone holding a plank. The partner on top controls depth, and the seated partner mostly gets to sit there. It takes about ten seconds to set up, assuming you own one decent chair.

WhatThe CEO Is

One partner sits in a chair with both feet flat on the floor. The other sits on their lap, either facing them or facing away. The name comes from the office chair, which is the one part of the setup people get wrong.

Facing away gives the seated partner more control and a better view. Facing forward turns it into a slow, eye-level position. Both are the same position with the receiver spun around.

Feet do more here than anyone gives them credit for. The seated partner should keep both heels planted and slightly wider than the knees. That gives a stable base to push from. If the heels come up, the whole chair starts to feel unreliable, and the mood follows.

PickThe Right Chair

A chair with wheels is a bad idea. It rolls at the worst possible moment, and a swivel base adds a second way to lose your balance. Every office chair in the world fails this test. Use a dining chair instead.

Look for a solid seat and a back worth leaning on. Sturdy beats comfortable here. Armrests either help or get in the way, so test them before you commit. Anything you assembled yourself last spring gets a hard second look.

Seat height sets up the whole thing. When the thighs of the seated partner sit level with the floor, the lap is flat and easy to sit on. A tall stool tips the lap forward and the person on top slides. Standard dining chairs land in the right range almost by accident.

How To ActuallyDo It

  1. 1

    Choose A Real Chair

Pick something sturdy with no wheels and no swivel. Test it by sitting down hard once before anyone else is involved.

  2. 2

    Sit And Plant Your Feet

The seated partner sits back with both feet flat on the floor. Lean into the chair back so you are not holding yourself up.

  3. 3

    Lower Down Slowly

The other partner straddles them and lowers with control, facing whichever way you picked. Use the chair back or your partner's shoulders for balance.

  4. 4

    Sort Out The Feet

Whoever is on top needs their feet on something solid. A stool or a stack of books works if the floor is too far away.

  5. 5

Let The Top Set The Pace

Depth comes from how much weight lowers, so let that partner drive it. The seated partner can help by holding the hips.

Facing AwayOr Toward

Facing away is the more common version. The receiver controls depth by how much weight they lower, and the seated partner can hold their hips to help. It is a close relative of the pearly gates, which does the same job with both bodies leaning back.

Facing forward is slower and more connected. Knees land outside the seated partner's hips and the faces line up. It fits neatly onto any list of slow and close positions. It is also harder on the thighs of whoever is on top.

Facing away has one quiet advantage. The receiving partner can lean back against the chest behind them and hand over most of the effort. Leaning forward instead, with hands on the knees, makes the same position steeper and more active. Those two options are inches apart.

Speed is easy to lose in a chair. Without a mattress to push off, most of the movement comes from the legs of whoever is on top. Short lifts work better than big ones. When the legs get tired, switch to rocking the hips and the position keeps going.

VariationsTo Steal

Lean the receiver forward onto a desk or table. Hands on a solid surface take weight off the thighs and change the angle at the same time.

Add a footrest. If the receiver's feet do not reach the floor, give them a low stool to push against. Control comes back immediately.

Sessions in a chair run long, and skin against fabric is not forgiving. Keep a good lubricant nearby. If you want the version with more theater involved, the wilder positions use a lot more furniture.

Put a towel or a folded blanket on the seat. Wooden chairs are unkind over time, and fabric chairs get warm. It sounds like a small thing until minute ten. A blanket also stops the chair from announcing every move to the rest of the house, which older wooden chairs love to do.

Who ShouldTry It

The CEO suits couples who like being upright and face to face without standing up. Nobody has to hold a plank. The seated partner does very little, which makes it a smart pick when one person has more energy than the other.

It is also a fine escape hatch from the bedroom. Moving to a chair breaks routine without much planning, and it costs nothing to try. Plenty of the other position guides ask for far more setup than this one.

Getting up is the one clumsy part. Do not stand together. The person on top steps one foot back to the floor first, finds their balance, then rises. The seated partner stays put and keeps a hand on the hips until everyone is upright.

Weigh in

Has anyone actually tried this on an office chair?

Be honest.

Questions PeopleAsk

What is the CEO sex position?

The CEO sex position has one partner sitting in a chair while the other sits on their lap. The receiver can face toward or away from the seated partner. It is named for the office chair, even though an office chair is the worst possible choice for it.

What kind of chair works best for the CEO position?

A sturdy dining chair with a flat seat and a solid back. Avoid wheels and swivel bases entirely. If the chair creaks when one person sits down, it will not survive two.

Is the CEO position tiring?

It is tiring for the partner on top, whose thighs do most of the work. The seated partner does very little. Giving the top partner a footrest removes a lot of that strain.

What is the difference between the CEO and pearly gates?

In the CEO the seated partner sits upright in a chair. In the pearly gates both partners lean back, usually on the floor or a bed. The CEO is easier on the back and the pearly gates is easier on the knees.

Can you do the CEO position facing your partner?

Yes, and many people prefer it that way. Facing forward puts you at eye level and makes kissing easy. It asks more of the top partner's legs, so a wider chair helps.
